China Hebei Huanghua Port Dredger Fill Soft Soil Foundation Treatment Project

Project Overview

The Phase II project of Huanghua Port Comprehensive Bonded Zone is a national key construction project located in Cangzhou, Hebei Province. The project covers a reclamation area of 2.06 km², with a total hydraulic fill volume of 11.41 million m³ and a soft soil treatment area of 2.15 million m². The newly reclaimed land will be used for bonded warehousing, logistics and industrial facilities, supporting the strategic development of Bohai New Area and the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region.

Project Timeline

Project commencement: 2014
Major reclamation works: 2014–2015
Vacuum preloading and soft soil treatment: 2015–2016

Technical Scheme

The project adopted hydraulic reclamation combined with vacuum preloading soft soil treatment:

  • Hydraulic filling formed the new land with an average fill height of 4.0 m.
  • Geotextiles were applied for separation, filtration and reinforcement.
  • Vacuum preloading and surcharge preloading were used to accelerate consolidation.
  • Geotextile tubes were used in shoreline protection and embankment stabilization.

This scheme effectively addressed the challenges of weak foundations and ensured long-term land stability.

HOKBG Supply Scope

HOKBG provides non-woven geotextiles, woven geotextiles, bidirectional plastic geogrids and geotube bags for the project. They are used for isolation, drainage, reinforcement and slope protection:

  • Non-woven geotextiles: 200–400 g/m², used for water filtration and drainage; 1.4 million m² supplied.
  • Woven geotextiles: Tensile strength ≥40 kN/m, used to improve foundation bearing capacity; used to separate backfill sand from existing silt; 700,000 m² supplied.
  • Bidirectional plastic geogrids: 20–20 kN; 700,000 m² supplied.
  • Geotubes: used for embankment protection and consolidation in land reclamation areas; 100,000 m² supplied.
  • All materials passed third-party quality inspections and performed well under high salinity and UV exposure.
