HOKBG Silt Curtain Applied in Laguna Lake Lakeshore Road Project in the Philippines
Recently, Xiangtan Hao kang Ecological Materials Co., Ltd. (HOKBG) successfully shipped two 40-foot containers of silt curtains to the Philippines. These silt curtains will be used in the Laguna Lake Lakeshore Road Project, providing effective turbidity control and environmental protection for this major infrastructure development.
Laguna Lake is the largest freshwater lake in the Philippines and an important ecological and fisheries resource for the region. The Laguna Lake Lakeshore Road Project is a key infrastructure project designed to improve transportation and regional development. However, marine and shoreline construction activities can generate suspended sediment during dredging and shoreline works, which may spread into surrounding waters and negatively affect water quality and aquatic ecosystems if not properly controlled.
To address this challenge, the project uses HOKBG silt curtain systems to control turbidity during construction. A silt curtain, also known as a turbidity curtain or sediment control barrier, is widely used in dredging projects, marine construction, coastal engineering, and environmental protection projects to prevent suspended sediments from spreading beyond the work area.
In this project, the silt curtain is deployed around the construction zone to create a floating barrier. The curtain is supported by a float system at the water surface while the curtain fabric extends vertically into the water to the required depth. This forms a containment barrier that keeps suspended sediment within the construction area. As a result, sediments are allowed to settle naturally without spreading into surrounding waters.
The HOKBG silt curtain features an integrated one-piece structure, which offers higher stability and better resistance to waves and currents compared with traditional segmented designs. The curtain fabric is made from high-strength permeable filtration material, allowing water to pass through while effectively trapping suspended sediment particles.
Another key feature of the HOKBG silt curtain is the sandbag ballast system installed along the bottom edge. Unlike traditional chain ballast systems, sandbags do not corrode in seawater and therefore avoid rust formation that could damage or cut the curtain fabric. This design significantly improves durability and reliability in marine environments.
With the installation of the silt curtain system, suspended sediments generated during construction are effectively contained within the work zone. This helps maintain water clarity and protects the surrounding lake ecosystem and fisheries resources.
Xiangtan Hao kang Ecological Materials Co., Ltd. (HOKBG) is a professional manufacturer of environmental protection materials, including silt curtains, geotextile tubes, and geotextiles. Its products are widely used in dredging projects, coastal protection, land reclamation, mangrove restoration, and marine aquaculture protection.
Looking ahead, HOKBG will continue providing reliable silt curtain turbidity control solutions for marine construction projects worldwide, supporting sustainable coastal development and environmental protection.
